Archbishop Hunthausen of Seattle protested publicly against the nuclear arms race by withholding 50% of his taxes. Some of his flock took exception to this and other acts of the Archbishop and sent a formal protest to Rome. Rome asked the Archbishop of Washington to conduct a public investigation into the complaints. Shortly after the investigation, Archbishop Hunthausen had a heart attack which put him out of circulation for nine months.
