The significance of the recent elections in Haiti for the rest of the Caribbean and Latin America is not that President Aristide is a priest so much as a strong supporter of an ideology which says the poor must come first. But the poverty of Haiti is so great, it seems that a miracle would be required to make any changes in the position.
